2010 World Cup Soccer, South African Cities.

The 2010 World Cup in South Africa is around the corner and if you are attending any of the matches you might want to know little bit more of the urban you might find yourself in. South Africa in general is a very eye-catching country with beautiful landscapes and lots of sightseeing.

Johannesburg will be hosting 15 matches and has two World Cup stadiums, Soccer City and Ellis Park Stadium. Johannesburg is the economical centre of South Africa and home to 7.2 million (Clarification needed) people. Please note that Johannesburg is a eventful city with lots of activities available but be vigilant of walking unaccompanied in the streets at night-time.

Cape Town, the Mother City, will be hosting 9 matches and is also very renowned for its wine farms. Cape Town is very green city with spectacular blue shoreline, but is a very rainy and gusty town. Cape Town is home to Table Mountain and the famed Cape Point. Cape Town is also known as the main attraction in Southern Africa to international tourist’s worldwide.

Port-Elizabeth is also a very beautiful coastal city with the marvelous Nelson Mandela Bay soccer stadium which will be hosting 8 world cup games. Port-Elizabeth is home to water sports and the foremost seaport in South Africa for motor vehicle boarding in South Africa.

Durban has the busiest container port in South Africa. Durban is one of the more warm water coastal cities and a very popular holiday town amongst South Africans. Durban is famous for its various Indian curry restaurants which is a must do if you are planning to visit. Durban will be hosting 8 world cup games in 2010.

Bloemfontein, City of Roses, will be hosting 6 world cup matches. Bloemfontein is known to have some of the friendliest people in South Africa. Bloemfontein is located about in the middle of South Africa in the Freestate province.

Pretoria will be hosting 5 games and is about 60kms away from its neighboring city Johannesburg. The Union Building; which is a government residence; is located in Pretoria and is a big tourist attraction. Pretoria is one of the three capitals (Pretoria, Cape Town & Bloemfontein) of South Africa.

Nelspruit is the capital city of the Mpumalang province and will be hosting 4 world cup matches. The National Kruger Park which is famous for its safaris is also close to Nelspruit and one of the biggest tourist attractions in all of South Africa.

Rustenburg is located in the North West province and will be hosting 5 world cup games. The Kgaswane Game Reserve is located close by Rustenburg and is a must for any wildlife lovers.

Polokwane will be hosting four 1st round matches and also know as an ecotourism hot spot. The Pietersburg Game Reserve is ideal for wildlife tourists. Hiking trails in this region is a favorite amongst all mountaineering tourists.

I have to say SA did a fantastic job hosting the event. I have to say what about the Springboks in the tri nations though - 0-3. Maybe a little more inspiration from the home games now the soccer is over.

I must admit, SA did do a good job with the World Cup and with the soccer being the core of all attention I think the Boks might have been a bit distractd. Hopefuly soon they will get back into the game :)
