Music Exposure Online
Getting music exposure is not an easy task at hand, especially if you are solo song writer that don’t have time to perform live shows on a regular basis. I have my project, which is called Passenger9, where I solo write & home record tracks to upload to the net with some hope of recognition someday, and personally I don’t think I have done too bad so far.
1st of all, you at least need a name for your music, I use Passenger9 as my alias to write music, so you need some catchy name to use as an alias. Some people prefer using their own name, but personally I’m not a big fan of this method. There are many hubs/blogs & websites out there that could assist you in choosing the perfect name for you band/solo song writing project.
Once you have overcome this milestone, you must get a website. Now, this is a very easy task these days, but for those who are unfortunate to not willing to spend a few dollars or pounds...it’s not the end of the road. My up and running Passenger9 Project doesn’t cost me a penny, and you don’t have to spend a penny either to get yourself on the map. Yes, it is a much slower process, but it is definitely worth a try. I have created my Passenger 9 Website, which is a complete flash built site, easy to create online, drag & drop template based... for free. My site is created on www.wix.com which offers very nice premium packages as well with domain hosting and lots more.
But now once again, you are sitting with an awesome website, but this very long web address which no one can remember looking something like this; http://www.myweb-host-name.com/my-band-name/blah-blah-blah; and let’s be honest, no one is going to remember it. Now my next solution is a personal favourite, it’s called .tk. Yes, you register a free account with http://www.dot.tk and you can rename and redirect you newly created flash site to something more like www.my-band-name.tk they also offer free email redirection with your choice of email address, for example: info@my-band-name.tk
Dot.tk also has a traffic report that they keep you up to date with via email, or you can log onto your dot.tk account and check traffic from there as well. So now you have an awesome website, with an awesome domain name...all for free.
Now that you have a website up and running, you can approach online music radio stations and other online music sites that cater for online music exposure. One of my personal preferred sites is My Music Stream. To see an example of my profile go to http://www.mymusicstream.com/passenger9/ . My Music Stream offers lots of nice interactive exposure modules from offering your fan base to download your music for free, or selling your tracks via a Paypal account.
Another website that I like to use to upload my music is Songvault. Songvault has competitions where music fans can vote for your music to stay on Songvault. An example of this is http://www.songvault.fm/search.htm?search=So%20Jaded
There is many more website that offers free music hosting for exposure on your music, you just need to search the net for local or international competitions. Getting heard online is one of the best ways to get an international fan base quick.
Best regards
